Biography
Professor Brahim Benmokrane (FCSCE, FACI) is holding an NSERC/Industrial research Chair in Innovative FRP Composite Reinforcements for Concrete Infrastructure and a Tier-1 Canada Research Chair in Advanced Composite Materials for Civil Structures in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Université de Sherbrooke (Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada). He has obtained his engineering degree from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne, and his Ph.D. in civil engineering from Universite de Sherbrooke. He was a project leader in ISIS Canada (Canadian Network of Centers of Excellence on Intelligent Sensing for Innovative Structures). Professor Benmokrane is an active member in the CSA (Canadian Standard Association) committees on FRP structural components and reinforcing materials for buildings (S806) and bridges (S6), and ACI committee 440 ‘FRP Reinforcement’, where he contributed for developing new Design Codes (CAN/CSA S807-10, CAN/CSA S-806-02, CSA-S6-06) and guides (ACI 440.1R.01/03/07, ACI 440.3R.04, etc.). In addition to membership in many professional organizations such as ACI, CSCE, ASCE, and ASTM, he has published more than 300 technical papers and has received numerous awards or distinctions. During the last ten years, Professor Benmokrane has trained more than 65 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows on various aspects of FRP composite materials and concrete structures reinforced with FRP.
