Dr. Pasini received master degrees in civil engineering and in architectural engineering respectively in 1995 and 2000, from the University of Pavia, Italy. After working as a professional engineer from 1995 and 2000, he obtained in 2003 the PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol, U.K.. In January 2003, he joined the German Aerospace Center (D.L.R.) in the Department of Adaptronics at the Institute of Structural Mechanics in Braunschweig, Germany. Here, his research focused on the optimization of solid state hinges for adaptive wing flaps. Since July 2004, he has been a faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of McGill University. His research lies in the area of solid mechanics, architected materials, structural optimization, multiscale mechanics. D. Pasini is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Mechanical Metamaterials and a member of the McGill Institute for Advanced Materials, of ASME and IEEE.
