A collaborative research project between three Quebec universities (École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), Polytechnique Montréal, and Université Laval) and three industrial partners (Flying Whales Québec, Stelia Aerospace North America, and Pultrusion Technique Inc.) is underway to develop manufacturing and assembly processes for thermoplastic composite aeronautical structures. This PhD position focuses on the thermoforming process, a rapid manufacturing method in which a pre-consolidated blank is heated in a convection or infrared oven and quickly transferred to a press where a two-part mold shapes the blank to the desired geometry.
