Biography

Jason Robert Tavares is a Full Professor of Chemical Engineering and head of the PhotoSEL (Photochemical Surface Engineering Laboratory) at Polytechnique Montreal. He holds bachelor and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering from McGill University (2005 & 2010), having specialized his studies in surface modification, plasma processing and particle dispersion. His research focuses on the low-cost synthesis and modification of functional surfaces through photochemical and solvent-based approaches. Beyond his expertise in surface and interface science, Prof. Tavares also has a strong background in industrial research and development, having worked in the private sector as a product development scientist for a local environmental engineering firm. His multidisciplinary track record is evidenced by 75+ publications in surface modification, water harvesting, emulsions, materials synthesis and process scale-up (and pedagogy), as well as 2 awarded patents and several more pending.
