Over the past few months, several CREPEC members and their students have designed, implemented and presented scientific discovery workshops in schools and libraries.
On the afternoon of May 4th, Farimah, Sare and Sampada introduced 3D printing to children at the Beaconsfield library. In the past, together with Louis, they had met Grade 6 students from École Saint-Grégoire-le-Grand in Ahuntsic and École Saint Jean Baptiste de Lasalle in Hochelaga. The workshops were chosen by teachers and librarians through the TechnoSciences network, which listed the module in its ‘Innovators at School‘ catalog.
In April, an introductory workshop on composite materials, created by Nicolas and Bastien and overseen by Daniel and Bendaoud of the Cégep de Saint-Jérôme’s CDCQ, was presented for the first time to 180 Secondary 3 students in the Applications technologiques et scientifiques (ATS) course at École Polyvalente Saint-Jérôme. The workshop covered topics such as polymer matrices (thermosets and thermoplastics), molding processes (press molding of prepreg sheets) and composite material properties (3-point bending tests on composite material specimens).
