Polymer-Matrix and Ceramic-Matrix Composites, Virtual & adaptive manufacturing of composites, Multiphysics simulation covering geometric forming/shaping of composites, Material characterization & modeling for manufacturing simulation
Dr. François LEBEL is the director, technology and innovation as well as team lead of Composites & Advanced materials at Centre technologique en aérospatiale (CTA), R&D center that he joined in 2019. He is also an adjunct professor in the systems engineering department at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) of Montreal. Dr. LeBel has participated and has been conducting R&D on processing development and virtual manufacturing of polymer-matrix and ceramic-matrix composites since 2004. During this period, he worked in both, academic and industrial institutions, on multiphysics modeling of manufacturing processes, material characterization & process control applied to Liquid Composite Molding, compression molding and autoclave consolidation primarily for aerospace, automotive and energy production applications. Furthermore, he has cosupervised graduate students from several academic institutions in Montreal area. Before joining CTA, Dr. LeBel has worked at GE Global Research Center in Niskayuna (NY, USA) from 2012-2019 where he taught composite manufacturing to Edison Engineering Development Program (EEDP) interns among other things.
